Dr. Fernando Pastor is a highly valued member of staff at the Music Studio. He is a versatile musician with a
wealth of experience as a pianist and conductor and also as a musicologist and composer using both
traditional tools and music technology.

Dr. Fernando Pastor's career in music is to date extremely diverse. Academically, he has been a  Fulbright
Fellow in the USA, studying composition, musicology and computer music at the University of California and
University of Washington. Currently, he is a PhD-Candidate in Music Composition at Southampton
University. In the last years, he has taken courses at several prestigious institutions such as the Tanglewood
Music Course in the USA, King’s College London and the French Centre for Contemporary Music, IRCAM,
at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

As a composer he has won several prizes and his music has been performed by many ensembles and
soloists in Washington, California, London and Madrid. Throughout this time, he has also had the opportunity
to gain experience in conducting both choirs and ensembles in those countries

Since February 2005, he held the post of Assistant lecturer as the  University of La Rioja (Spain) where his
work was highly praised.He  has contributed valuable research in the History of Music Performance, a field
relatively new in musicology.For the past ten years he has lectured , taught and performed in  Spain, England
and the USA.

Dr. Pastor's workshops on Contemporary Music have been successful in Spain a
are currenrly offered to
British schools and colleges..


Sonia Gergis grew up in a very musical family with a strong piano playing tradition. She pursued a  career in music
education where the breadth of her experience and her depth of culture were very much appreciated.  She worked for
several years as a Head of Music Department in London and made some valuable contribution to curriculum
development in multicultural schools.

Sonia also established a successful piano teaching practice in Woodford Green for the past 25 years. She is a pianist
and choral singer/conductor who taught music in four languages and organised several high profile music events .
These  included her production of the London premiere of "Egyptian Days" by Steve Howrie at the Commonwealth
Institute in 1995 and other day events at King Alfred's College, Winchester, Lochinver House School Hertforshire.

Sonia Gergis is the author of several papers and some curricular material for Stanley Thornes Educational Publishers,
the British Journal of Music Education, Primary Music Magazine, the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority and
Birmingham Area Support Services amongst others . She has moved to Manchester where she continues to teach.  
She conducts the newly formed choir of St Mary & St Mina Coptic church in Stockport and she is still actively involved
in running her Music Studio which is now in Gants Hill in Redbridge on the London Essex border.

Sonia is planning to introduce new projects for holiday music,  cross-curricular workshops and after school clubs
covering a variety of exciting themes. She is directing the course "Early Years at the Music Studio" due to start this
autumn and leading an event to fund raise for the chapel of Chichester Cathedral.

Rano Djuraeva is an enthusiastic well-qualified musician and teacher with considerable experience. For eleven
years she was Head of Music Department and Accompanist at the College of Art in her native Uzbekistan where
many of her students won prizes in National Competitions.
As a student she was a finalist in some prestigious piano competitions and as a teacher she inspires and motivate
her pupils whom she encourages to make the grades and participate in performances.
She has excellent communication skills and is fluent in English, Russian, Tajik/Persian, German besides her native
Uzbek.
She came to London in 2006 and joined "Musica-Nova" Lrd, and the Anglo Russian Music Academy as a Piano
Teacher.
At the Music Studio she offers tuition in piano, theory and aural training to advanced level.

Miwako Miki is a promising young pianist and teacher who joined The Music Studio in 2008.

Miwako studied the piano from a young age in her native Japan. At the age of 11 she entered her first competition and
won 3rd Prize at the Chiba-Nippou sponsored piano competition in japan. Three years later she won the 1st Prize at
the Student Music Competition of Japan in Tokyo and in 2006 she was awarded the Diploma Prize of the Chopin
Competition in Asia.

Since her graduation in 2008 she has come to London to further her musical training. She is studying privately and
teaching part-time and participating in various music festivals.

Miwako has three years experience in one to one teaching of the piano, solfege and music theory. She enjoys a good
relationship with young pupils.


We are delighted to welcome Mr. Chris Huntley who has joined the staff of the Music Studio
in September 2010.  He is  a highly talented and versatile pianist. vocal coach and musical
director who will be teaching the piano and singing.
